Accessible Bathroom Design

We understand the importance of accessible spaces, and the bathroom is no exception! Ensuring that the bathrooms in our specialist disability accommodations (SDA) met the design requirements for High Physical Support, Fully Accessible and Improvement Livability SDA was just a jumping off point. Extensive research went into our accessible bathroom design to ensure it perfectly met the needs and wishes of NDIS participants. We couldn’t be more proud of our accessible bathrooms, and we think you’ll love them too.

Safety & Comfort

Safety and comfort are the cornerstones of any accessible bathroom design. In our SDAs, we prioritised features that enhance safety and ease-of-use. For individuals with mobility challenges, a slip or fall can have serious consequences, that's why we provide provisions for handrails within the walls of our bathrooms. With provisions for handrails, NDIS participants and their occupational therapists can personalise the space to provide the most appropriate support for their needs. Our bathrooms are also designed with a spacious layout to accommodate mobility aids like wheelchairs, walkers, or crutches.

Accessible Showers

An accessible bathroom isn’t complete without an accessible shower to match. To provide greater safety and convenience, our showers are designed with step-free access and shower curtains. While glass shower doors can look sleek and modern, they can hinder accessibility and create barriers for users. Our shower curtains provide a wide and flexible entry point, making it easier for individuals who use mobility aids to access the shower with minimal inconvenience.

Overhead Hoists

In our commitment to creating accessible spaces, we feature provisions for overhead hoists in our SDA accommodations. With a weight capacity of up to 250kg, hoists can enable effortless and safe transfers from the bed to the bathroom.

Wheelchair-Friendly Sinks & Cabinets

With the needs of wheelchair users in mind, we designed our sinks and vanities at an optimal height for easy use. With an open space beneath the sinks, residents using wheelchairs are able to comfortably roll under the counter.

As an SDA developer, we are committed to prioritising accessibility in every aspect of our designs, including our bathroom designs. By considering the safety, comfort, and convenience of NDIS participants, we’ve created bathrooms that truly cater to the diverse needs of our residents. But that’s not all that you can expect from a Leben Homes SDA. With hydrotherapy pools and sensory gardens, our SDA homes truly are homes you want to live in. Contact us now to learn more.
